I’m Sato, aiming to be a wrestling master.

This weekend, my son will compete in a wrestling tournament:
the “29th National Invitational Championship” in Tokyo!
He qualified from the summer nationals, so this is the ultimate showdown.

美濃和紙あかりアート館

每年秋天在美濃市舉辦的「美濃和紙あかりアート展」中獲獎的作品，都在此館展示。

一樓是免費休息區與販售美濃和紙燈飾作品的商店，二樓則是重現美濃和紙燈飾藝術展的博物館。

不僅展覽室精彩，建築外觀的設計也值得關注。

此建築於昭和16年左右，作為「美濃町產業會館」而建造。為切妻造的木造二層建築、屋頂採石棉板覆蓋，是美濃市現存最大規模的近代木造建築物。

它的外觀以強調水平線條為特色，被評為能保留昭和初期風貌的珍貴建築，並指定為國家登錄有形文化財。

從長良川鐵道「美濃市站」步行約10分鐘

搭乘岐阜巴士（岐阜～美濃線）到「うだつの町並み通り」站下車，步行1分鐘。

箕輪隨筆【我家的小霸王】

最近我們家出現了一位「小霸王（2歲）」，

只要不如他的意，就會用「哭」來

讓大人相當困擾。

只要一句「不可以」，

物品就飛了起來，

大人的臉也被打到，

簡直就像在演電影裡的打鬥場景。

這個小霸王體型和力量都不容小覷，

用手掌打臉（基本上是巴掌）讓大人的HP直線下降…。

不過，若把這稱為「自我意識的萌芽」，

又覺得這似乎有點可貴也很神奇。

問題在於，無論怎麼罵怎麼哭，

他依舊最愛媽媽！毫不動搖。

為了讓疲憊的媽媽能休息，

爸爸或「奶奶」也努力出面支援，但卻往往越哭越兇…。

結果爸爸和奶奶在「不會停止的大合唱」面前徹底戰敗。

不知道這種情況會持續到什麼時候，的確有點擔心…。

然而，大人們雖每天提心吊膽，還是會忍不住想著「將來一定會成大器…」

一邊半開玩笑，一邊抱著些微期待。

創立於明治35年（1902年）的美濃和紙雜貨製造商，

在其總公司石川紙業「和紙屋的手工」中也可享受手作體驗，

這裡正是「美濃和紙雜貨體驗商店石川紙業」。

位於岐阜縣美濃市著名觀光地「うだつの上がる町並み」，

在傳統建築群保存地區、擁有270年歷史的老建築裡，可以體驗和紙工藝。

適合全家旅遊來體驗美濃和紙手作，

也是美濃市觀光的熱門景點，深受團體旅遊歡迎，是岐阜觀光的必玩行程。

作為能親手製作和紙工藝的旅遊行程，適合家庭旅行、團體旅行計劃。

學校修學旅行也能在此認識美濃和紙歷史、親手體驗和紙工作坊；情侶出遊亦常來訪。

例如體驗「和紙ころころ」的手作人偶，

We have lined up our adorable new 2025 Hina dolls (crafted by Ishikawa Shigyo) in our shop.

Overseas visitors also show great interest in Hina dolls,

stopping by to take a look,

and often purchasing compact Hina sets to bring home as unique souvenirs.

Throughout Udatsu no Agaru Machinami, we’ll be hosting

the “Udatsu no Machiya Hina Doll Festival.”

Various periods of Hina dolls will be on display all around town.

You’ll see grand seven-tiered Hina doll sets, which are less common nowadays.

A stamp rally will also take place, so

feel free to join the fun.

Our store is a participating location for the stamp rally as well.

With the support of Mino City Tourism Association, if you make purchases at participating stamp rally locations,

you can collect stamps,

and then join the Garapon lottery for a chance to win special prizes!

At our shop, you can even make Hina dolls in a hands-on workshop.

They’re round, plump “korokoro” Hina dolls.

If you opt for the add-on “Kimono Decoration” option, you can turn any character into a Hina doll.

Animal versions are especially popular!

Rabbits, cats, frogs—why not create a uniquely whimsical Hina doll?

We hope you’ll enjoy our hands-on experience!

Groups can also do the Hina doll workshop.

It typically takes about one hour, but if you extend your session by around 30 minutes,

you can craft your very own set of Hina dolls.

The workshop fee is ¥2,420 per person.

Our workshops are made simple with pre-prepared kits,

so it’s easy for anyone to participate,

but we also provide a wide variety of beautiful Mino Washi on the table,

encouraging creativity—people add flowers or dress their dolls in washi outfits.

Every autumn, Mino City hosts the “Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition.” Here you can see the winning pieces displayed year-round.

The first floor is a free rest area and shop selling Mino Washi Akari Art products, while the second floor is a mini museum replicating the atmosphere of the Akari Art Exhibition.

Don’t miss the unique architectural design. This building was constructed around 1941 as the “Mino Town Industrial Hall,” a large wooden building with a gabled roof—one of the largest surviving wooden structures in Mino City.

Its horizontally oriented façade represents architectural features of the early Showa period, recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the national government.

Minowa’s Note [The Little Emperor at Home]

Recently, our family has welcomed a “little emperor” (age 2)

who stages quite a dramatic protest if we don’t grant his wishes.

He’s discovered that “crying” makes the adults scramble.

The moment we say “no,”

objects start flying,

our faces get slapped,

it’s like a movie brawl scene.

He’s tiny, but his size and power can’t be underestimated.

When he lands a face punch (mostly open-palmed),

it takes down our HP pretty quickly...

Still, the experts call it “the emergence of self-awareness,”

so it oddly feels kind of precious.

The real challenge is that no matter how much scolding or crying happens,

he still absolutely adores his mom.

Even if dad or grandma (“baba”) step in to give her a break,

the crying intensifies.

So dad and grandma are forced to retreat in the face of his nonstop wailing.

We have no idea how long this phase will last...

But despite all the chaos, we can’t help but think he’ll grow up to be someone big—

maybe that strong will is the mark of a future star!

So that’s how it is...

Our Mino Washi Zakka Experience Shop offers hands-on “Washi Crafts” by genuine artisans.

Located in the “Udatsu no Agaru Machinami,” a famous sightseeing spot in Mino City, Gifu,

it’s a 270-year-old historic building in the Preservation District where you can enjoy washi crafts.

Families love the Mino Washi workshop for their trips, and

it’s a popular group activity in Gifu tourism. Experience real Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

Whether for families or group tours, it’s perfect to learn about Mino Washi’s history.

We also welcome couples, and it’s an excellent option for school trips and cultural exchange programs.

We offer Mino Washi crafts including our signature “Washi Korokoro” dolls,

plus washi earrings, pen holders, plates, bookmarks, and summer washi fans—

over 30 types of hands-on experiences. We also have historical figures, animals, and local motifs.

We’re a popular stop for inbound international visitors from 37 countries.

No reservation needed for individuals. Workshops take 30–60 minutes.

Our staff is here to help, and we have pre-made base materials, so no worries if you’re not crafty.

You can take your finished item home right away.

Groups of 10 or more, please make a reservation. We can host up to 45 people at once.

If more than 45 people, we’ll do multiple sessions. We can also open for groups outside normal hours.

各位一直以来承蒙关照。
从4月开始我成了PTA干部，佐藤。

昨天进行新旧PTA干部与老师们的见面交接。
一般对PTA的印象是学校或社区活动繁琐而辛苦，但实情并非如此。
我家孩子就读的小学这两年以“可持续发展”（SDGs理念）为口号，进行了大刀阔斧的改革。
在学校的配合下，针对少子化趋势，保留必要的活动，完全废止可删除的项目。
连会议都可自由参加。事先听说过，亲眼见到时仍十分震撼。
正如现任PTA会长所言，“若能减轻家长与老师的负担，笑容会增加，小孩也会更开心”，
整场会议笑声不断。
非常敬佩现任PTA为了改革而付出的决心与热情，
我也希望能在任期内尽情享受这份工作！！
(另外，跟校长老师交谈时得知，校长常跟我女儿一起在攀爬架上玩……笑)

提到“可持续发展”就想到SDGs。

Ishikawa Shigyo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1902 (Meiji 35) in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, a region renowned for Mino Washi paper. Through our philosophy of “handwork from washi artisans,” we manufacture, wholesale, and sell Mino Washi craft goods. ■For 2025, we’ve used our washi handcrafting expertise to create large and medium 3-tier or 2-tier Hina displays.

■They feature a high-grade shiraki (natural wood) stand. Original Hina doll stands only from Ishikawa Shigyo, in both three-tier and two-tier designs.

■We’ve spent many iterations on the design and prototyping, completing these beautifully arranged Hina doll stands.

■“Yu (優)” in particular is a very beautiful Hina set that took years of prototyping. Although compact, it is still considered large by our standards.

■We’ve given each series a distinctive name: “Yu,” “Rin,” “Tsumugi,” plus the glass-made “Midori.”

■All are Ishikawa Shigyo originals designed to match both Japanese and Western interiors—compact and easy to display anywhere in today’s modern homes.

Professional artisans create separate stencils for each color, mixing dyes, and manually printing each layer.

A Word from Our Team ~ Sato’s Castle

Thank you for your continued support.
I’m Sato, newly joining the PTA since April.

Yesterday we had a handover meeting with both outgoing and incoming PTA members plus the school leadership team.
PTA often conjures an image of lots of tasks at school or in the community, but in reality, it was totally different.
At my child’s elementary school, for the last two years they’ve advocated “sustainability,” making major reforms.
With the school’s cooperation, they’re keeping what’s essential while aggressively doing away with anything they can, in light of declining birthrates.
Participation in meetings is optional, and while I’d heard that in advance, it was still a shock to see in action!!
As the current PTA president put it, “If parents and teachers have less burden and more smiles, the children will smile too,”
so the meeting was full of smiles from start to finish.
It’s truly impressive how the current PTA leadership overcame old traditions and mindsets to enact these reforms with strong commitment.
I look forward to enjoying my term, paying homage to what they’ve achieved!!
(On a side note, I found out the principal and my daughter frequently play together on the monkey bars, haha.)

這條街上仍保留著江戶時代建造的「帶有庇護牆的房屋」，可在此漫步欣賞。

所謂的「うだつ」，是指在屋頂兩側修築的防火牆。江戶時代時為防止火災蔓延而建，但當時的富商們為了炫耀財富，各自打造了相當華麗的うだつ。可以觀賞到各種設計風格。這些氣勢磅礡的街道，吸引許多觀光客。此外，也有能進一步體驗美濃和紙魅力的店舖。

うだつ本身也有多種型態，請務必拍照留念。

「うだつ」主要是防火牆，雖然人們容易只注意到漂亮的瓦片，但建議將「牆」部分一併拍攝，照片會更好看。

交通方式

從長良川鐵道「美濃市站」步行15分鐘

搭乘岐阜巴士岐阜～美濃線在「うだつの町並み通り」下車後步行5分鐘。

從東海北陸自動車道美濃IC下，經國道156號約5分鐘

箕輪隨筆【積雪15公分】

上週迎來今年初雪，一夜之間積了約15公分。

果不其然，平時30分鐘的通勤變成1小時，

一到公司就和所有同事一起掃雪，搞得滿身大汗。

雪是鬆鬆的粉狀，用竹掃帚就能掃開。

那天的天氣非常好，

很快就融化了。

傍晚回家後，看到家裡掛著3件滑雪外套在晾，

原來孩子們在鄰近的田裡想堆雪來做「かまくら」(雪洞)，

結果雪太鬆，根本無法堆起來。

不過他們很享受這久違的雪！

院子裡還留著滿是泥巴的雪人(^^♪

創立於1902年（明治35年），作為美濃和紙雜貨製造商，

可在本社石川紙業感受「和紙屋的手工」，

於美濃和紙雜貨體驗店石川紙業享受各種手作體驗。

位於岐阜縣美濃市觀光名勝「漲勢十足的傳統街道」上，

在保存有270年歷史的傳統建築群內，能夠體驗和紙工藝。

作為美濃和紙手作體驗的家庭旅遊景點、

此地為美濃市人氣觀光景點，深受團體旅遊與岐阜觀光客喜愛。

Inbound Group Travel Enjoying the Snake (Eto-mi) Craft Workshop

This week, we had many overseas visitors and family groups on tour,

making the shop lively.

For group tours, we are currently offering the Washi Korokoro Snake from the Chinese Zodiac as the craft experience.

Although it is a simple roly-poly style doll,

visitors create wonderfully unique original pieces.

A boy who loves Japanese anime wrote Japanese characters on his doll,

pasting them to complete his design.

He wrote “Substitution Jutsu (身代わりの術).”

He did it so well that we were really impressed.

We’re not sure which anime it was from, though (*_*;

Among the group were many children,

and it was heartwarming to see families competing to make even more original pieces than their kids, once their kids got really into it.

After the workshop, many guests purchased Mino Washi Maneki Neko (beckoning cats), May dolls, or Hina dolls as souvenirs,

and children especially loved the den-den drums or kendama.

One little girl tried kendama in the store right away,

giving it several attempts.

When we showed her how, we got a round of applause from other customers! (^^♪

In our shop, we sell a variety of items made with Mino Washi,

including souvenirs popular with international travelers.

Although your workshop creation is itself a souvenir,

we’re sure you can find even more wonderful mementos here.

All around the streets, you’ll see Hina Dolls from different eras,

including gorgeous seven-tier displays,

Udatsu Wall Historical District

Enjoy strolling through a street lined with historic “udatsu” houses dating back to the Edo period.

“Udatsu” refers to the firewalls at both ends of the roof, historically meant to prevent fires from spreading. During the Edo period, wealthy merchants competed to build ever more impressive udatsu. You can appreciate many different udatsu designs. This dignified street scene continues to fascinate visitors, and there are also shops where you can experience the charm of Mino Washi.

Each udatsu has its own shape, so be sure to take lots of photos.

The firewall portion is also important — not just the decorative “kawara” roof tiles. Include the firewall in your shot for a great photo.

Access:

A 15-minute walk from the Nagaragawa Railway “Mino-shi Station.”

Take the Gifu Bus Gifu-Mino Line and get off at “Udatsu no Machinami-dori,” then walk 5 minutes.

About 5 minutes by car from Mino IC on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, via Route 156.

Parking: Please use the Kanko Fureai Hiroba (Tourist Plaza) lot.

You can also visit the Mino Washi no Sato Kaikan to experience traditional paper-making by hand.

With over 1,600 years of history, Mino Washi is a great subject for learning,

and the facility has exhibits on Mino Washi’s history.

It’s a perfect spot to learn more about this craft.

Minowa’s Note【15cm of Snow】

Last week, we had our first snowfall of the season, about 15cm overnight.

As expected, my usual 30-minute commute became an hour,

and right after arriving, everyone in the office shoveled snow, working up a sweat.

Since it was a light, powdery snow, we could even use a bamboo broom to clear some areas.

It was a sunny day, so

most of it melted away quickly.

When I got home that evening, I saw three sets of ski clothes drying.

Apparently, my family tried making a kamakura (snow hut) in the field next door,

but the snow was too powdery to pile up at all.

My kids had a blast anyway!

There’s still a muddy snowman in the yard (^^♪
